H8

November 15, 2008

Supporters of lesbian and gay marriage in cities and towns throughout the United States simultaneously staged protest rallies against the passage of California’s Proposition 8, also known as Proposition Hate, or simply H8.  Electing the first African-American U.S. president while at the same time voting into law a proposition which strips lesbian and gay citizens of equal civil rights epitomizes extreme irony.  And hate.  Let two things be known from this moment on–Whatever religious mask the haters wear, it will be torn away and your true ugliness revealed, AND, and the fight for true equality, justice and civil rights for our LGBT brothers and sisters will go on, in full force, until it is won.

How do you photograph unconditional love?  Many feel it’s not easy to even find.  Perhaps that’s truer than we’d all like to believe.  But here’s one place I looked.

A mother and her daughter…a lesbian mother and her straight daughter.  A woman who has been an open and proud lesbian as long as she’s been “out,” and her daughter who has always known, who was raised by an openly lesbian mother, who openly supports and defends her mother (and all human rights), no matter the adversity and outright hatred that exists for the LGBT community.  This is not mere acceptance.  This is love, true and unconditional.  You don’t photograph it; it commands everything in its presence.

I salute LGBT Pride by honoring these women, brave and loving and beautiful.  May our world be filled with more and more people, of any and every persuasion, just like them.

The Pride of June

May 26, 2008

It’s almost here, the month of June. Spring to summer, perfect weather. It is the month we support and celebrate our lesbian and gay, bisexual and transgendered citizens. With honor, respect, and truthfullness, for entire the month of June, I will turn my camera on our lgbt brothers and sisters. My blog photo is dedicated to lgbt pride for the month of June.

Here is another shot of the same couple who let me into their home and hearts for a photo shoot this May.
